Referee apologizes to De Ligt after FC Bayern Munich’s dismissal in UEFA Champions League

A side referee who reject Bayern Munich’s second goal as offside at first apologized to Matthijs de Ligt for a mistake. This came after the UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Santiago Bernabéu, which ended with Real Madrid qualifying for the final.

In a press conference, Matthijs de Ligt revealed that he had spoken to the referee after the game about lifting the goal and allowing the goal to go into extra time.

“When we are in the last minute you shoot like that it doesn’t happen. Whether or not there was a mistake in the test, how do you know if it was not done? Rudiger didn’t do it, it’s a shame about him.

But after the game, the referee came to me and apologized for his mistake, and I could not refuse to listen to him. Winning and losing do happen, but I’m not the one who puts it on the line. I think this is the law and must be followed. This goal, if confirmed, would have added an additional 30 minutes to the match.

Bayern Munich scored a late goal and added another in the final minute, both scored by Joselu, giving Real Madrid a 4-3 lead. The final is scheduled for 1 June 2024 between Real Madrid and Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, who last played in 2013 and lost to Bayern Munich.
